The best of literature and modern arts - Ernest Hemingway, Henry Miller, Lawrence Durrell, etc - have once stayed at Le Royal and one of the hotel's lounges actually sheltered the first 'cafe-theatre' in the world. At that time Montparnasse led the art world. Opened in 1917 and completely renovated in 2001 by the architect Nuel in a refreshing neo-classic style, this large and nicely decorated hotel feels like home: plants and fresh cut flowers adorn salons and breakfast room and a Winter garden makes an ideal relaxing spot. The soundproofed rooms, all decorated with warm colours and great taste, are fitted with everything you need to make your stay comfortable ; bathroom, hairdryer, satellite TV, direct dial telephone, mini bar. Close to the hotel you will find the famous brasseries-restaurants of Montparnasse: the Coupole, the Dome and the Rotonde. On neighbouring streets, the artists studios nestled in courtyards recapture some of the former atmosphere
